Creative, enthusiastic new members are the lifeline of the group and we’re always looking to welcome new researchers from a wide range of career stages and backgrounds.
Internships
Internships are suitable for relatively short projects (1–4 months) and an excellent way to dive into a fun research challenge. We may be able to provide a stipend though this is dependent on current funding and your status in the UK. Feel free to contact Hessam to enquire about possible internship opportunities, which are generally available year-round.
Nuffield placements
If you are in high school, Nuffield placements are an excellent way to get your hands dirty and experience working in a research group. We welcomed three Nuffield students in 2023 and are looking forward to more students joining this summer. If you are specifically interested in a placement within the group, please let Hessam know as early as possible so we can look into the possibility of hosting your placement here.
Undergraduate & post-grad taught projects
We host 1–4 post-graduate taught (PGT) students every summer. On top of that, at least one fourth year BSc/MChem project student joins us every year. If projects in the group fit your research interests, it might be a good idea to get in touch early to see if hosting your project here will be possible.
PhD/MSc supervision
We welcome applications from enthusiastic undergraduate/master students in any STEM field, particularly those with a background in chemistry, life sciences, engineering and computing.
Please feel free to contact Hessam if interested in starting a PhD in the group; however, note that we receive a lot of copy/paste or blanket emails. In your email please explain why you would like to join the group, what specific directions and/or projects you are interested in, and how your background aligns with any element of projects in the group (the answer could be none).
Post-doctoral research
Please contact Hessam directly via e-mail to discuss PDR opportunities.
None of the above?
There may still be a way we could work together. Send us an email with your interests and availability to find out if there are any suitable opportunities.
